my education in cultural anthropology has equipped me with the important ability to observe deeply. so much comes from a willingness to absorb details, to experience being as both an insider and outsider--to feel a moment, to consume it physically, emotionally, spiritually--yet simultaneously allow yourself to transcend the closeness of it all, to look on, to be a stranger to your own intimate existence. through the distance, the foreignness, the plain and seemingly obvious texture of life becomes rich and rewarding.
